The last round of Taylor Steele’s online project ‘Innersection’ is up and running. If you’re unaware of the format for Innersection, here’s a quick rundown: Surfers team up with a filmer, piece together a two-three minute clip highlighting their talent and personality, upload it to the website and wait for the general public’s approval. If they rank in the top five videos for any of the four rounds, they score a place in the final Innersection movie. Well, that’s not also what they get. If their section is voted the best out of the 20, they’ll walk away with $100,000.

In the last round, surfers have gone all out in an effort to qualify. To save you the effort of watching every clip on the site, we’ve picked our favourites and gave you a quick synopsis.

To view Brenno’s section click here.

Pic: Bosko

Brenno Dorrington- The Gold Coast lad shows his true talent in this clip, tearing apart anything he gets his sweaty little mitts on. The edit and music really suit Brenno’s surfing and everything just seems to fit together. This clip will actually make you want to go surfing.

To view Dom’s section click here.

Pic: Bosko

Damien ‘Dom’ Wills- You want to see a man excel in slabs? You also want to see him throw down tech shuvits? Well Dom is the man for you. His clip highlights his confidence in big waves and his ability to take to the skies. While you might not like the song, Dom’s surfing will certainly make up for it.

To view Kelly’s section click here.

Pic: Bosko

Kelly Slater- You can’t skip past watching Slater’s section. After watching this clip for the first time, I was a little disappointed. The second time around I realised it is still a fairly solid clip with barrels, carving 360’s and awkward airs. It’s nothing special but still worth watching.

To view Adam’s section click here.

Adam Bennetts- The surfing in Adam’s clip may not be the pick of the crop but it makes up with comedic value. Bennett’s theme is original and surely captures your attention. I found the surfing to be a bit of a letdown as air-reverse after air-reverse becomes boring. However, it’s a creative production that will make you laugh.

To view Jack’s section click here.

Pic: Bosko

Jack Robinson- This 12-year-old is the future of surfing and the clip shows it. The section reveals how well Jack actually surfs and it’s scary. Give him a few years to develop and mature and I think we may have a future World Champ on our hands. This section will blow your mind.

To view Ry’s section click here.

Pic: Bosko

Ry Craike- This clip is fucked up. Ry and Tom Jennings have put together an insane section with 12-15 foot barrels and crazy punts. Throw in some mental turns as well and you’ve have a winner. Simple.

Notable mentions:
Joel Parkinson- Trippy, psychedelic and average.

Alex Gray- A solid mix or barrels, turns and airs. It’s definitely worth watching.

Oli Adams- This geezer dude rips.

This year the majority of the Rusty team spent a fair amount of time in Bali. They got to surf perfect waves and sip icy cold Bintangs while the rest of us were stuck in Oz braving the winter.
Today is one of those days when we can’t be bothered doing a lot. Waves Editor Nugget is away, Eden and I are working from home. The grommet is squirrelling around somewhere. Instead, we dug up a little interview and video Andrew Mooney conducted with Copacabana up-and-comers, Josh and Brendan Hay. See below for the clip and check out the interview here. Also, note that Mooney’s new movie will be out in the upcoming issue of Waves. Early glimpses indicate that it’s gonna be banging.

Waves has been a fan of the septic GQ for yonks. The stories, layouts and photos are all world-class and serve as a consistent source of inspiration. We recently checked out their webpage and cast our eyes over 100 natural beauties from all over the world. Photographer Gordon von Steiner travelled from London to Montreal to Coachella to New York, chasing some of this seasons hottest girls. The results vary. Some aren’t that attractive (at least not to us). Some are so freakin awesome it’s unfair. Click this link to see the results.

Waves had the pleasure recently of receiving a few pairs of FCS’ new H3 Nexus fins in the mail. We proceeded to take them to Indo and attempted to take them through their paces. We failed miserably. But we failed with smiles on our heads, because instead of doing wiggles and getting angry about it, these wiggles actually felt good and made us happy. FCS sent us this video that explains all the reasons why our wiggles felt so damn good and we thought we’d show you.

Yeah, Patty Gudang and Jordy Smith are busting out all kinds of wild shit in CT events and sending the kids wild. But what happened to good old fashioned, drowned railed gaffs? They’re still around, albeit performed by an older generation who love to drown the clouds and soak the heavens. Here is Waves’ tribute to five Aussie blokes who love nothing more than letting the spray fly.

Can you imagine what it’d be like trawling the Indonesian region for waves? Well, the gang at Rip Curl has been doing exactly that for the last couple of weeks and documenting it online. Their ‘Tip-2-Tip’ project aims to ‘search’ from one end of the Indonesia Archipelago to the other, looking for new and un-ridden waves. This clip stars Dean Brady, Timmy Turner, Bruno Santos and Dillon Perillo as they let loose on the boat fuelled by booze and boredom. How they get bored spending their time on a boat somewhere in Indo beats me. To keep up to date with all of their nautical travels, head over to Ripcurl.com

The art of surfing with fins is hard enough but mastering it without fins is near impossible. Derek Hynd is renowned for pushing the boundaries of surfboard design and has certainly got finless surfing dialled. In the clip below, Derek spins and glides across the long walls of J-Bay barely holding onto what little rail he has under his feet. Sick.

After a week of lay-days, the Billabong Pro Tahiti is done and dusted. Andy Irons has claimed his first World Tour win in over three years, with his last being in Chile back in ‘07. While Andy’s start on this year’s tour was sluggish and disappointing, we finally got to see the three-time World Champ back in form. On his way to the final, Andy took down a string of surfers including Mick Fanning, Pat Gudauskas and Kelly Slater. He then came head-to-head with previous Teahupoo winner CJ Hopgood and could smell victory. Andy surfed a smart final picking off the best waves and crushed CJ’s hopes for a second win. Although the critics were claiming Andy’s time was over, he summed it perfectly after the final by stating, “I feel like I’m back.” Below is the highlights reel from the final rounds of competition. Keep an eye out for Kelly Slater’s remarkable take-off and ten-point ride.
