Three Questions For…
May 31st, 2010 by Ethan | Filed under News, Profile Movie.Over the years there’s been some exceptional signature surf movies, how will Scratching The Surface be different?
I guess you’re gonna have to wait for the feature to judge for yourself. I’m confident that between the camera systems utilized, editing approach and extensive creative story telling will result in a fresh, original and cutting edge film.
What’s your goal with the film?
Our goal with this film from the start was to be creative, have fun and enjoy capturing what it is like to be Julian Wilson. Julian has a bright and vibrant personality that we wanted to carry over into the films overall feel. Julian is living every kids dream and we wanted to shoot a film that was through his eyes. We are trying to appeal to many different demographics with this film. My days of making surf porn are over; I’m more interested in telling stories through creative cinematography and editing. We have spent hours and hours story boarding, upped the production value ten fold, and gone to each location with one goal in mind: to work our ass off.
How involved has Julian been in the editing process?
Julian is very involved in the editing process. When he’s in California he is constantly coming over to sit in on edit sessions and put in his two cents. When he is on the road, I am posting rough cuts and editorial on our private FTP program for him to preview and email feedback. This has been the first time I have ever made a film with so much athlete involvement. Hell, if there was a signature film being made on me, I would be involved too. – Ronnie Blakey
