What is the best thing about freesurfing as opposed to comps?
“It would have to be the feeling of freedom, just being able to try new things whether or not you’re making it. All of my brothers are older than me and when I was real young we would all go on little road trips up and down the east coast surfing all kind of different spots. So fun and some of my best child hood memories.”
How will your Black Knight video submission separate itself from the other guys clips?
“There are a couple of slabs in there too and a lot of different beachies. I’ve tried to mix it up. I’ve seen some web clips where every wave is an air-reverse and I don’t think that is good surfing at all. I think a big hack will always be up there with the new airs.”
What’s one of the main goals you have in the freesurfing realm?
My main goal in the freesurfing realm is get an end section in one of Kai Neville’s movies featuring all the top guys. I guess a lot of people would have that goal as well. “
Are there any destinations you want to tick off your list to get some diversity
in your footage?
“Somewhere like Lakey Peak and the waves around there looks sick for getting some good clips. I love going to new spots, that feeling of finding perfect waves with a few of your best friends and filming it is like no other."
Which freesurfers do you find inspiring?
“Guys like, Rob Machado and Shane Dorian… Craig Anderson’s another guys how surfs amazing. I don’t think anyone could dislike his surfing. I really look up to Laurie Towner who can surf waves from two-feet to 20 feet.”
What’s more important to you, good photos and videos or a few comp victories?
“Winning a comp for me is a big achievement especially if it’s a pro junior event. But at this stage in my surfing I think I’d be much more happy with some good photos and video.” ” |
